Hurricane Irene hit me twice – once in the Caribbean, and once in NYC, and I’m still here. The cyclone was actually only a "Tropical Storm" when it hit me in the Caribbean, and a Cat1 Hurricane when it hit NYC. Despite the mass panic here in the city, it was actually much rougher in the Caribbean. From my apartment and friends apartments in the West Village, we got a bit of heavy rain and some downed branches, but that’s about it. No hurricane apocalypse that the media predicted, no need for tape on every store window. I’ve heard that the storm was much worse in other spots, and I feel lucky to have had an easy time with this one.
