  • I’m going to Barcelona on Thursday night.

    >I’m going to Barcelona on Thursday night…taking the night train. The people I’m going witih want to get the cheaper seats, but i think its a better idea to pay 12 bucks extra to get a sleeper car.. and our own beds, since the train leaves at 10pm and gets in to barcelona at 9am… what do you think?

Then, on Monday, I’m hopping on a plane to go to Milan, Italy…. stay tuned for pictures from the field..

  • Radio1190 (the radio station I work for)

    Best Radio Station

“In a radio world marked by conformity, Radio 1190, a signal affiliated with the University of Colorado at Boulder, provides a refreshing blast of individuality. The DJs at the outlet, whether they’re working standard shifts or specialized shows, are distinguished from their professional counterparts by a love of fresh, outside-the-mainstream sounds, and their unpolished exuberance is infectious. As a result, Radio 1190 is wonderfully old-fashioned and exceedingly contemporary at exactly the same time.”

  • Antequeria/Bull Fight

    PLEASE COMMENT

Last Saturday about 15 of us from CEA went to Antequeria, a historical town about an hour west of Granada. We spent the day exploring ancient ruins and hiking in an incredible national park…. some of the coolest geology I have seen in a while. Also, Sunday night i went to a bullfight in Granada. It was awsome. So the basic deal with the bullfight is…

-They really pack everyone into that arena…no space around you, but it gives the whole thing that authentic feel.

-There are 6 different fights, 6 different torreros (matadors)

-The bull is released from his cage into the ring, where a group of 4 amature ‘rodeo clown’ type matadors wait with pink capes. These guys arent very brave, and end up running from the bull and vaulting the wall to get out of its way. These dude serve to tire the bull a little, or perhaps to get it warmed up.

-Then dudes with these colorfull barbed, hooked steel spears come out. They wave the spears around and get the bull to charge them. The dodge the bull, and as its passing, slam the sharp spears into the bulls back. Since the spears are barbed, they stay lodged in the bull, and blood starts gushing everywhere, dripping off the bull.

-Next, 2 horses with riders come out. The horses have this thick woven wooden armor on, and the riders have polished metal javelin size spears. The tips of these are sharpened, but not barbed. When the bull sees the horses, he immediately charges a horse at full throttle. Its amazing to watch, cause the horse actually knows how to react to this, and instead of running, the horse leans into the bull to handle the blow…the horse sometimes has to lean in as much as 35degrees to avoid getting knocked over by the charging bull. Also, when the bull is goring the horse, the rider takes his javelin and plunges it into the bulls back.

-Then then matador comes out. He’s all dressed in a really cool outfit, and has a special deep red cape and a sword. The matador dances around and does the whole bull-charge-cape-prancing thing for a while. Its really cool to watch, almost like a matador-bull tango. This goes on for a while, untill the bull starts to get tired, both from running around so much, and from blood loss.

-At this point, all the other ‘rodeo clown’ matadors come out and corral the bull against the wall.

-Then the matador gets his ultra sword out, and when the bull lowers its head, the matador charges the bull with the sword, stabbing the bull right behind his head, severing the bulls spinal cord and arteries in its neck.

-At this point, since his spinal cord has just been severed, neural communications between his brain and the rest of his body are cut off, and he collapses to the ground.

-I’m assuming that the bull doesn’t die instantly. He’s just been running around and stuff, so no doubt he’s got some adrenaline going. When they cut his spinal cord, they are only breaking the communincations. They arent killing his brain instantly, so I think that the bull probobly lies on the ground for a few minutes, concuious, but unable to move or feel, his breathing stopped, his heard slowing to a stop, and his body slowly dying of oxygen deprivation.

-Maybe I’m wrong, but who knows… i hear when you’re beheadded, your head lives for a little while after its severed from your body….

    -Ok, back on track…

-After the ‘kill’ the bull, they tie it to 3 horses, and drag it around the ring, then take it away to be cut up and sold after the fight.

-The matador then takes a victory lap.

-This happens 6 times with 6 bulls.

-There’s a ‘7th inning stretch’ which happens between the 3rd and 4th bull, but nobody sings ‘take me out to the ball game’

  • Carnival in Cadiz, Spain

This past weekend, I went, along with pretty much all of Spain, to Carnival in Cazdiz. Cadiz is a little nothingness town on the southwestern coast of spain (no, not the southwestern coast of the Ibearian penninsula, that would be lagos, portugal). Rooms in hostels and hotels were sold out months in advance, so we ventured down there with no place to stay. We found a bus company that ran a shuttle down there… 20euros there and back. So saturday afternoon Thai, Emiko, Ola, Per, Chrissy, Lindsay and I hopped on one of the many busses going to Cadiz. We arrived around 6, had some food, and then the partying began. It was pretty amazing, the entire town was filled with people dressed in every possible costume. There were stages with music acts set up in all the large plazas, and bars on the streets. The whole entire town partied all night, and in the morning, those without beds (which was about half the people there) woke up in the streets or on the beach. I think the most incredible part was waking up on the beach in the morning, unbelievable dirty and sandy, and walking around town, just looking at the wreck of a city. Anyway, I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story…

  • Today Chris and I hopped a bus up to the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Ok, today Chris and I hopped a bus up to the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was awesome. We got up there to the ski area, had some breakfast and coffee, then got tickets to ride the gondola. So we went to the top of the mountain, and rented snowmobiles. We cruised around for a while on those, which was awesome, then went in for some lunch. After lunch we didn’t have enough money to rent skis, so we decided to just walk and stumble down the whole ski mountain…it was incredible. Check out all the pics from our trip!

One of the very very few excelent things about Cincinnati is Skyline Chili. It’s a Cincinnati institution, pretty much. It’s basically their special chili served with spaghetti, cheese, onions and beans, or over a hotdog with cheese and onions on top. Skyline Chili is, as Sean would say, “the nectar of the gods”. So for my second night back in the ‘nati, I ate at skyline with my brother. I had the usual, a 5 way, cheese coney and a rootbeer….

    mmmmmm skyline chili

  • Ok, so I just sat in my car and drove 1200 miles in 21 hours

Ok, so I just sat in my car and drove 1200 miles in 21 hours. Amazing. So after packing up my life in Boulder, I’m chillin at home in Ohio for a few days untill I leave for Spain on February 6.

Yeah so, I have a lot of shit. In packing and storing all my stuff in Boulder, I managed to completely fill a 10X10X5 foot storage locker (500 Square Feet), plus the entire back of my 4-Runner, plus the roof racks on top of teh car, plus a huge duffel strapped to the top of the ski rack. It was amazing. Driving home was uneventfull, and Kansas sucks to drive through. So for the next few days I’ll be chillin in Cincinnati, hanging out with my family and getting ready for Spain.

Oh, so if you’re wondering about The Acid Lounge (my show on Radio1190), fear not, it will still be on every wednesday from 11-1. Now, Chad Wescott, the former underwriting director of Radio1190 and leader of the Lowland Apartments crew will be taking over The Acid Lounge in my absence. Don’t worry, Chad is the man and has a superior taste in music.

Thats all for now… ill keep ya posted on whats about to go down in spain asap… i should find out who im living with soon

    A touching story…

nothing, just found this on the web...though it was interesting...posted it... although there is shit going down in my so called 'love life', youll have to contact me to find out

  • Ok so I’m gettin ready to go off to spain….

Ok so I’m gettin ready to go off to spain…. I’ve been packing up my life here in Boulder for the last week… its incredible. I have almost gotten halfway through my room..ive taken about 3 carfulls of stuff over to teh self storage place to store it in case i decide to come back to boulder. Also, its been weird saying goodbye to all my friends here in Boulder. I’,m going away for a while, and I’m sad to leave them, but im also really really excited to meet new people in spain. Finally, Malinda finally came back from her travels abroad. It was awsome seeing her…she had been away for a year..but it seemed much longer. We hung out some and got some dinner 2 nights…it was really great seeing her. She was pretty much my first friend here at CU (back in 2000, hehe), and we have been friends ever since. She’s great. (yes, i know ive said this about other girls on this blog, but really, Malinda is the best, really.).. She’s super smart, really witty, funny, interesting, easy going… great to hang out with. She’s also super ultra pretty, and athletic. It’s frusturating for me that she came back now..cause im leaving in a few days, and she just came back, so we dont have much time to hang out. I don’t know what she thinks of me, if she things im just some guy, or a friend, or maybe even more? But I really like her….I guess if it was meant to be or whatever, I shoulden’ worry about leaving. I wonder what she’ll think if she reads this? Whatever, she’s a great girl and a great friend…I dont think she’ll think im weird or whatever. i just dont know….

..::this is what my room looks like now::..
    (I’m packing)
I'm in the middle of packing for Spain, so this is what my bedroom looks like now.....it's excelent, I've been sleeping on the couch downstairs for the last week

oh yeah, i found this video

surfing the internet…..this is such a great idea…i can sympathize with these dudes….since we have a ton of religious people shouting all over campus here at CU…. the video

    excelent trick…

You’ll notice a new and improved disclaimer on the site, and some more restrictive coding. Why? Well, I can’t tell you why, but I wish it didn’t have to be like this.

On another note, I’m in the final stages of gearing up to go to Spain! I’m ultra psyched about it. The hardest thing so far has been cleaning up my life here in Boulder so I can cleanly depart the country. Also, I’ve been contemplating packing and what to bring along and what to pack it all in. I think the current plan is I’m going to try to pair down and fit it all into my 7000 cubic liter Dana Designs Astralplane and a small backpack. I think it will be easier to travel that way, and it will make me bring only the bare essentials.

Gotta go… going to King Soopers with Pinky to get some bread, cheese, batteries, a spatula and some other late night essentials….

Today I snowboarded in Telluride, Colorado. I think this is something like my 12th year coming here, and it just gets better every year. The snow was pretty good, and I got a chance to go to Prospect Bowl, this new area of the ski mountain. Also, I ran into Pam East, an old friend from Telluride Academy.

I’m out of time now….more on my trip later, including some photos and whatnot…

  • This week, my family is in town visiting me.

Today I skiied with my family in Vail. The snow was nice and soft… Tomorrow we’re going to Beaver Creek, and after that we’re spending a few days in Telluride. Check back later for a photo or two.

  • Ok, so I just finished up the final exams of the first semester of my junior year in college

    >Ok, so I just finished up the final exams of the first semester of my junior year in college. Its incredible. This was probobly the hardest and most stressfull round of exams to date..but I made it, and I actually think I did well on a few of them. Anyway, during studying for exams for almost 2 weeks solid, I think I pretty much lost my mind, and started composing poetry on the little note cards I was using to study for Biopsychology.

Below are the poems I wrote during exam week. They’re a little out there, probobly because my mind was fried. Also, they’re in chronological order, covering about a day or so (but written over a week). Hope you like them. If you have any poems of your own, please send them to me or post them as a comment!
